Two Florida counties this week switched contractors hired to handle health care at their county jails. The Volusia County Commission on Thursday dumped Corizon Health, which also is the state prison system medical care provider, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal. Earlier this week, Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Mike Crews threatened to withhold payment to Corizon unless it improved operational and staffing problems at its prisons. Coincidentally, Volusia selected Miami-based Amor Correctional Health Services, which had been providing services in Hillsborough County jails until Wednesday. The Hillsborough County Commission last month hired NaphCare to handle medical care to inmates at its two jails, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
