A pair of lawmakers is working to keep Florida drones grounded. The two are sponsoring bills aimed at outlawing the use of drones to monitor people or private property without permission.
As technology advances, Sen. Dorothy Hukill (R-Port Orange) says drones are becoming more and more prevalent and she says it’s time for Florida’s laws to get out in front of what she sees as some future concerns.
"We don't want to limit the future technology for commercial reasons. There's wonderful uses that could happen for research, reasons for education, reasons for developing the entire technology," Hukill says. "However, it has no place in your yard. Why would anyone want to be filming your yard without your permission and often times without your knowledge?"
Hukill's bill applies specifically to drones with cameras. The measure would allow law enforcement officers with a warrant and officials working to address terrorism concerns to use drones.
