Marlins Park will host the 2017 Major League Baseball All-Star game.
Only 20 days into his new position, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred made the official announcement alongside Gov. Scott and local leaders at Marlins Park on Friday.
The MLB All-Star game means more to Miami than just revenue.
“This game is of great importance for the soul of the city of Miami,” Miami mayor Tomás Regalado says. “It’s the city where a view from here in Allapattah you have Dominicans playing baseball and in Wynwood you have Puerto Ricans playing baseball and in Little Havana; right here, you have Cubans playing baseball.”
The city may gain about $100 million associated with the All-Star game, he added.
The game's festivities won’t just be tied to Marlins Stadium in Little Havana. Fan activities will mostly take place on Miami Beach.
Despite being under construction, Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine said the Miami Beach convention center would be ready for the 2017 game. “We’re going to make it happen. We justgonnaget it done,” he says.
