The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and a University of South Florida anthropology professor are developing a forensic research site, where investigators could study how the humid climate and sandy soil affect human corpses, The Tampa Tribunereports.

The donated human corpses would be left out in the open and studied at the Sheriff’s Office training center in Lithia, according to The Tribune. The introduction of such work requires approval from the County Commission. It will collect public input at an April 23 meeting in Wimauma, according to The Tribune.

It would join a handful of similar facilities across the nation, USF Anthropology Professor Erin Kimmerle told The Tribune. Now, Hillsborough deputies travel to Tennessee for this research, The Tribune reports.
