Republican Senator Jeff Brandes is once again throwing his weight behind ride-sharing legislation. The move would create blanket regulation across the state for companies such as Uber and Lyft.

Brandes, a St. Petersburg Republican, is the chairman of the Senate Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee. He believes state wide rules will lead to “seamless access to ride-share platforms” for travelers. No legislation has been filed yet for the upcoming session, but the ride sharing industry has backed state wide plans in the past.

Rivaling taxicab companies are concerned ride-sharing services will be governed under lighter rules.
