A group in Palm Beach County is pushing for a nude beach, but their efforts have been met with some resistance.
The group known as the Palm Beach Naturists sent a letter to the County Commission late last month asking for a clothing-optional beach on the north end of Gulfstream Park. If approved, the seven-acre park would be the only nude beach in Palm Beach County.
The closest nude beaches are Miami-Dade's Haulover Beach and one in Fort Pierce. Palm Beach Naturists say they want a closer option. Some locals say it would be good for tourism while others worry it will ruin the county's family-friendly image.
The proposal has been bounced back and forth between commissioners and the county’s Tourist Development Council, which rejected it. Now the matter is back in the hands of the Palm Beach County Commission.
