Florida Correctional Facilities' Lockdown Lifted, Prison Visits Restored

Florida’s correctional facilities are no longer under lockdown and prisoner visitation has now been restored.

With the exception of the state’s work release centers, a statewide lockdown of most of Florida’s prison facilities was in effect for several days last week and lasted through the weekend.

Visitation was also cancelled at all correctional facilities Saturday and Sunday. Prison officials say they’d received credible intelligence that small groups of inmates at several institutions may attempt to disrupt operations and impact safety and security.

In a statement Monday, Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Julie Jones says she felt her actions were “not only necessary, but effective.”
