An area of disturbed weather in the southwest Caribbean Sea has caught the eye of forecasters at the National Hurricane Center. In an outlook issued Monday afternoon, the system was labeled as having a “low chance” of developing over the next five days.
Development, if any, would not likely occur until the tropical wave moves across the Yucatan Peninsula Thursday or Friday. And even if the system develops into a depression or named storm, long range forecast data suggests upper-level winds would steer the system more on a northwesterly track toward Texas or Mexico. At this time, this potential tropical development is no threat to the State of Florida.
