Delays, Parking Restrictions Take Wing at Tampa International Airport

The nasty weather in the Midwest is taking its toll on flights here. Several flights have been canceled at Tampa International Airport. Airport communications manager Christine Osborn:

"Particularly out of Chicago O'Hare," she says. "That seems to be the airport with the greatest impact right now. We are seeing some delays out of Tampa International, it looks like we have seven canceled flights so far today."

Osborn says those canceled flights include three arrivals and four departures. And it probably won't get better as the winter storm blows into the Northeast.

"Once one of those systems moves and begins to impact the New York-area airports, that can also begin to impact a significant number of flights in and out of our airport as well," she says.

And drivers will no longer be able to park and wait at the airport's arrivals gate. Instead, there's no charge for the first hour of parking in the airport's garage, and a remote waiting lot has been decked out with wi-fi - and for the next month - food trucks.

"Those drives will now be active loading only," says Osborn. "We ask if you'd like to meet an arriving passenger, that they have their luggage and they are on the curbside ready before your vehicle is able to stop and help them out."
