The Tampa Yankees are moving north.
It was announced this morning that the Yankees minor league Single-A affiliate reached an agreement to move the team from Tampa to Ocala.
A presentation will be held in Ocala Tuesday, giving a total overview of the project that would move the team into a proposed $45 million stadium/entertainment complex
Jeannine Robbins, a spokesperson for the city of Ocala, says the plan for the new stadium will be revealed then.
“The city is in ongoing discussions with the Yankees regarding potential relocation opportunities for their class-A minor league team,” Robbins said. “So at the public workshop tomorrow the city will be revealing details about a proposed Minor League baseball stadium/entertainment complex that would be located on our State Road 200 corridor.”
The move would not affect the Yankees Major League spring training. The team has a 30-year contract to continue operations at George Steinbrenner Field.
