International Baseball will make its return to St. Petersburg this Friday for its fifth season.
Mayor Rick Kriseman held a news conference Tuesday afternoon with Tampa Bay Rays president Brian Auld and representatives from the Canadian Junior National Team and All Stars from the Puerto Rican Development Program to announce the 2015 schedule of St. Petersburg International Baseball.
The Canadian Junior National Team and Puerto Rican teams will face off against the Toronto Blue Jays, minor league prospect teams from the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Clearwater Christian College.
A new plan to renovate the Walter Fuller Baseball Championship Field into a championship-caliber stadium-- where nine of the ten games will be played -- was also revealed. The final game will be played at Tropicana Field.
The first game will be played Friday, March 13 between Puerto Rico and Canada.
The St. Petersburg International Baseball games used to be played at Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg. That stadium is now home to the Tampa Bay Rowdies, a professional soccer team.
