Customized burgers based on facial recognition and robots behind the counter at your favorite doughnut shop? It sounds like the premise of a sci-fi movie, but the future of food is stranger than fiction.

So says Laura Reiley. The prominent food writer covers the business of food for The Washington Post and before that she was the longtime restaurant critic for the Tampa Bay Times. In a conversation with WUSF's food podcast, The Zest, Reiley gazes into her crystal ball to give us a heads-up on what to expect in the future of food.

After years of being a food critic, Reily gave The Zest her overall impression of Tampa Bay's restaurant scene. You can find that conversation here.

Robin Sussingham was Senior Editor at WUSF until September 2020.
