Florida was the only state that received an 'A' grade for access and success for both it's two and four-year higher education institutions. That's according to a report card released Tuesday.
The report card is done by the Institute for a Competitive Workforce which is affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It measures performance and policies of universities and colleges from across the country.
Florida got A's in student access- that's the percentage of students getting grants, and success- that's the percentage of students staying and finishing school. It also ranked high in efficiency.
U.S. Chamber of Commerce spokesman Domenic Giandomenico says Florida is one of the few states that leads this category in post secondary education.
"This says that if you enroll in a Florida university that you'll probably have a higher chance of actually completing your degree than you would elsewhere," he said, " and that your own tuition money and your tax payer money is probably better spent in Florida."
Florida did get some bad marks too. For innovation on openness to providers, it received a 'D'.
The other five states that received A's in student access and success for their four-year institutions were:
- Illinois
- California
- Virginia
- Washington
- New Jersey
