The Hillsborough County Public School System board hired a consultant last year to see where the district can make cuts and save money.
Jeff Eakins, the Hillsborough County Public Schools Superintendent, addressed some of those proposed moves at his "State of the District" presentation Wednesday.
Eakins said cuts have to be made, but the district is doing what it can to avoid slashing classroom positions.
"Every single individual that is hired that does not touch a student during the day, we must vet that particular unit very carefully to make sure it's needed to have a strong infrastructure of support in this district," he said.
The consultant's report recommends cutting 731 positions in Hillsborough County, including custodial workers, secretaries, bus drivers and bus driver aides.
