The Florida Department of Education has released school grades for the 2016-17 school year.

Among the noteworthy results in Tampa Bay-- Melrose Elementary in St. Petersburg, the state's lowest performing school three years ago, earned a C grade. The school  got an F last year.

Overall, both the Pinellas and Hillsborough County School districts maintained their B grades from last year. However several schools in Hillsborough did not fare as well as the district overall. Potter Elementary School in East Tampa got an F for the fifth year in a row.

Pasco and Manatee County Schools each went up a grade from a C to a B, and Polk County Schools earned a C, the same as last year.

The Sarasota County School District is one of only two of the state’s 67 districts to have earned an A  every year since grading began in 2004.

As a reporter, my goal is to tell a story that moves you in some way. To me, the best way to do that begins with listening. Talking to people about their lives and the issues they care about is my favorite part of the job.
