A Moore Haven teenager is lucky to be alive after he tried "something he saw on TV" to repel an attacking alligator and it didn't work.
Kaleb "Fred" Langdale is reportedly joking with his sister now that she "won't be the only leftie in the family."
The 17-year-old was swimming in the Caloosahatchee River yesterday when a 10-foot alligator starting charging toward him in the water.
He tried to grab under the gator's lower jaw and as Kaleb tried to swim away, that's when the beast took his right arm off. His aunt, LaDawn Hayes said he probably knew the move from watching the National Geographic Channel's, "Swamp Men."
The alligator was killed and wildlife officials retrieved Kaleb's arm, but doctor's could not reattach it.
Kaleb's sister Rebecca Langdale told the Fort-Myers News Press, he knew it was "his arm or his life."
He knew he was losing (his arm), so he just took his feet, buried his feet in the alligator’s head and just pushed so that he could get it ,' Hayes said.
