The Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C., recently celebrated the birth of an extremely rare dama gazelle. The creature is considered a critically endangered specias; only a few hundred of the creatures live in the wild of Chad, Niger and Mali. So this was a big deal.
And here's where things get really interesting, as demonstrated by this expert from a press release we received:
Zoo staff was extremely heartened by the new arrival and were particularly taken by the little guy’s energy and zest for life. Because it seemed that the baby gazelle never stopped jumping about (or as it is more correctly termed, “stotting” or “pronging”), he reminded them of another hyperactive, non-stop force of nature -- fitness expert and Tampa resident, Tony Little.
That’s right: The purveyor of the Gazelle Glider has inspired the naming of an actual gazelle. Beat that, Total Gym!
"The birth of this amazing young gazelle is cause for great celebration,” said Tony Little (the one typically found on HSN, not the one typically found in the North African wild), in a written statement. “We owe a debt of gratitude to the wonderful people at the National Zoo for their dedication to research, conservation, and education. I encourage all Americans to support their efforts.”
