Hurricane hunters have found winds over hurricane strength on two different passes today as the system moved through the Leeward Islands. Now a hurricane, atmospheric conditions are favorable for continued strengthening of Gonzalo over the next 48 hours, and it could be as strong as a Category 3 by Wednesday morning. Thereafter, Gonzalo is expected to make a northward turn and potentially impact Bermuda as a Category 2 or stronger storm Friday or Saturday.
There is no threat from Gonzalo to the United States or Florida.
