Florida Matters: 2017 Legislative Roundup

It took them three days longer than it was supposed to, but Florida lawmakers have finally passed a new state budget.

This week on Florida Matters we’ll take a look at what’s in the $83 billion spending plan along with a few other issues decided during the 60-day session.

Our guests include:

  • Lynn Hatter, Florida Public Radio reporter and News Director at WFSU in Tallahassee
  • Dr. Susan MacManus, Distinguished Professor of Public Administration and Political Science at the University of South Florida

You can read the entire budget in detail – if you dare – by clicking here.

I’m the editor for Your Florida, a project focused on connecting people with state government and policies passed in Tallahassee that affect their lives. I’m passionate about highlighting community efforts to improve the quality of life in our state and am committed to holding those in power accountable when they fail to prioritize the needs of people they serve.
Carson Cooper served as host of WUSF’s "Morning Edition" for 18 years. He took the job in 2000, after working in Tampa Bay radio for decades. He was a fan favorite of our listeners, bringing his friendly and familiar voice to listeners as they started their weekday mornings.
