Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun has been suspended for the rest of the season for the use of performance-enhancing drugs he reportedly obtained at Biogenesis, a now-defunct Coral Gables "anti-aging" clinic, ESPN.com reports.
Major League Baseball has been investigating the clinic since Miami New Times broke the story about Biogenesis in January after obtaining records from the clinic. Braun reportedly took the deal -- which could cost him $3.5 million -- after a hearing in which he saw that MLB had extensive evidence.
ESPN reports that the evidence is even stronger against the New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez and that he is reported to be negotiating a settlement with MLB.
Tony Bosch, who pretended to be a doctor while running the clinic, is helping MLB with the investigation.
Florida has many anti-aging clinics that are only loosely regulated. Some states require that clinics be owned by medical doctors, but Florida does not.
