This Is Not A Photo of Trayvon Martin

PolitiFact Florida Photo

There's a photo being circulated in a chain email that shows Trayvon Martin was a lot more 'gangsta' than we've been led to believe.

He's much older and has tattoos on his face.

There's one problem.

The photo is not of Trayvon Martin, the teenager shot and killed in February by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.

PolitiFact Florida checked out the photo and found that it is really a publicity shot of the rapper "Game."

The chain email claims that this photo of Martin is being suppressed by the media, which, it claims, has been using much more younger and innocent-looking shots of Martin.

The email says, "They don't show the up-to-date pictures of Trayvon Martin, in the media.  Now you know why. Kinda scary, ain't it?"

PolitiFact Florida's Angie Holan says younger photos of Martin were used early on in the coverage of the Martin shooting.

"When Trayvon Martin was killed there were some photos released to the media that were from him when he was younger. And, some people said,  now, is that the most accurate photo to run? Ok, so that's a fair point to discuss. But what has happened since then is whoever created this email put in a photo that we were able to determine was a rap star who goes by the stage name of "Game." And we spoke with" Game's" publicist who confirmed that this is a photo of "Game." It's not Trayvon Martin."
