Gov. Rick Scott Declares State Of Emergency

Today, Governor Rick Scott declared a State of Emergency for Florida in preparation for Tropical Storm Erika.

It gives Scott and other state and county officials time to prepare for the storm.

The order  calls for the activation of emergency response groups, including the Florida National Guard, and helps get federal funds if there is damage.

It also gives authorities the ability to waive tolls and rules to allow emergency crews and vehicles to move throughout the state.

I took my first photography class when I was 11. My stepmom begged a local group to let me into the adults-only class, and armed with a 35 mm disposable camera, I started my journey toward multimedia journalism.
