Emergency operations centers across Tampa Bay are on guard for heavy rain and the very real possibility of flooding tonight and Tuesday.
A flood watch covering nearly the entire Tampa Bay region is under effect until 8 p.m., said Juli Marquez, a meteorologist with Bay News 9.
Pasco County’s center remained in operations through the weekend, and Pinellas County is partially activating its center at 1 p.m. today.
In addition, several communities are keeping open sandbag sites for residents. In Pasco, thousands of sandbags were picked up at its 10 locations over the weekend, said Ed Caum, a county spokesman.
“People started to make plans, people started to get ready to evacuate or prepare themselves better," he said.
"We put out more sandbags in the last four days than we did three weeks ago for that event because people are saying, ‘Wow, we better listen.’ ''
