Former President Bill Clinton has announced a partnership to turn part of downtown Tampa into a more walkable, healthy place to live and work.
Clinton broke the news at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York where he was joined on stage by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and developers from Delos – founders of the International WELL Building Institute – and Strategic Property Partners.
“They will invest and construct a $2 billion, 40-acre urban mixed-use development in order to pilot this innovative model for urban development,” Clinton said. “One that would be good for our campaign against climate change and good for the health of the people who live in the buildings and walk the neighborhood.”
The $20 million partnership will create the world's first "WELL" Certified city district. It is expected to break ground in 2016.
