Some neighborhoods near the Anclote River in Pasco County are flooding.
Because of high tide, Hurricane Hermine and a strong thunderstorm on Saturday, the Anclote River crested Sunday at 25.08 feet, officials said, and is forecast to slowly recede out of major flood stage by 8 a.m. Monday. The Anclote area remains under a flood warning.
About 55 people showed up at a shelter overnight though officials were expecting many more.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Pasco emergency services director Kevin Guthrie said about 750 to 1,000 residential structures were within the mandatory evacuation area.
Emergency responders evacuated about 30 people by boat Saturday. About 40 homes on the Anclote River were experiencing flooding on Sunday, with rushing water of 20 to 25 mph, Guthrie said.
Meanwhile, he Florida Division of Emergency Management posted on Twitter Sunday that 79,457 utility customers were still without electricity following Hurricane Hermine.
The county with the most number of outages was Leon, with 49,863 as of 10 a.m. Power lines in the city of Tallahassee in Leon county were especially hard-hit due to a thick tree canopy.
