While Florida prepares for Hurricane Irma, Tampa Bay hotels are experiencing a cycle of room reservations.

As east coast residents are coming to Tampa, some tourists are leaving the area ahead of the storm.

Santiago Corrada, CEO of Visit Tampa Bay, is watching the activity.

“People are looking to go to other parts of the state, not specifically to get out of the state,” he said. “So within the state, you see a lot of movement as far as reservations and cancellations.”

In addition, Irma has pushed some hotels toward capacity.

“We have approximately 20,000 hotel rooms in Hillsborough County on this side of the bay, so we could see over 90% occupancy if we're going to stay safe and dry,” Corrada said.

Florida officials say anybody looking for a hotel room should visit www.expedia.com/florida.
