Florida House Moves Ahead With $350 Million Tax Package

Republicans in the Florida House are pushing for a nearly $350 million tax package that includes a new source of money for one of the nation's largest private school voucher programs.A House panel on Wednesday approved the bill along party lines. Democrats said they could not support the legislation because it would steer money from public schools to private schools.
The tax package also includes a long line of proposed tax breaks, including a proposed 10-day sales tax holiday in August where shoppers would not pay taxes on school supplies and clothes.
Gov. Rick Scott in November recommended legislators approve about $180 million in tax cuts this year.
The House package does not include Scott's call to cut the fees charged to get a driver's license.
