The PAC ads -- the advertisements from political action committees -- just keep on coming.
And, they just keep making claims that "PolitiFact Florida" puts through its "Truth-O-Meter".
One that caught the eye of PolitiFact Florida was put up on the internet by "American Bridge 21st Century" -- a Democratic super PAC.
It's an attack on Florida Congressman Connie Mack IV. Though he still has to win the Republican primary, it's figured Mack will be opposing Democrat Bill Nelson for his U.S. Senate seat in November.
This satirical ad shows people supposedly from Florida in Washington, D.C. in search of Mack. They can't find him.
"Connie Mack: Only one bill passed in seven years," says the video, which features a Florida family ( actors) who can't find Mack. A disappointed kid says, "You think we’ll see him next time, pa?"
The claim spotlighted by PolitiFact Florida is "only one bill passed in seven years."
PolitiFact Florida's Angie Dolan says they found that to be "mostly true." Here's Politifact Florida's ruling:
"American Bridge is right to say Mack only passed one bill in seven years. However, they leave out that Mack cosponsored about 50 bills that were written into law and didn’t consider that some of his bills may have passed as amendments. Also, it's important to note that the number of Mack bills that became law is only one measure of his overall record -- and one that can be misleading when viewed in isolation. We rate the claim Mostly True."
Another PAC ad that drew Politifact Florida's attention was produced by conservative advocacy group "Crossroads GPS."
The somber ad attacks President Barack Obama's economic record:
"It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Over three years with crushing unemployment. American manufacturing shrinking again. President (Barack) Obama’s plan: Spend more. He’s added $4 billion in debt every day."
PolitiFact Florida's ear picked up on that claim that President Obama is adding "$4 billion in debt every day."
The ruling? Half True:
"Crossroads GPS has its math correct what it says that Obama has "added $4 billion in debt every day." But the ad suggests that Obama is solely to blame. That’s not true, because other factors -- including the struggling economy he inherited and decisions made before he took office -- contributed to that debt. We rate this claim Half True."
