Hillsbrough County Animal Director Loses Job

Tampa Tribune

Ian Hallett served as director of Hillsborough County's Animal Services for only 18 months, but in that short time, he drew enough criticism that he's now lost that position. Hallett has been replaced on a temporary basis by Code Enforcement Director Dexter Barge.

TBO.com reports Hallett has been transferred to Hillsborough's Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, where he'll work as manager of park services.

A number of issues led to Hallett's downfall at Animal Services, including two disease outbreaks and the mistaken euthanasia of some animals. He was also heavily criticized by members of the local animal welfare community as well as external auditors brought in to review his performance.
