A documentary marking President John F. Kennedy's visit to Tampa just days before his assassination has been entered into the archives of the U.S. Library of Congress.
JFK in Tampa: The 50th Anniversary was presented by Tampa Representative Kathy Castor at the Library of Congress Thursday, President Kennedy's birthday.
The documentary by journalist and producer Lynn Marvin Dingfelder aired on WUSF TV last November. It combined rare film and photos of Kennedy's visit to Tampa November 18, 1963 with first-person interviews from witnesses to that day. It was also the first time a sitting president visited Tampa.
“I am so honored to have my documentary archived in the Library of Congress,” Dingfelder said
“This poignant day in Tampa’s history will live forever in America’s library and will be available to everyone who is interested in President Kennedy’s last day in the public eye before the fateful day in Dallas,” Castor added. "This is the first time I have had the privilege to present a video documentary and I am thrilled this historic moment in time was captured in such a meaningful way."
