Activist organizations rallied outside Senator Marco Rubio's Tampa office Monday to protest what they're calling President-Elect Donald Trump's "Climate Denial Cabinet."
Representatives from 350 Tampa Bay, Greenpeace, Sierra Club and Organize Now joined the nationwide "Day Against Denial" to urge lawmakers to reject Trump's cabinet nominees.
Suzanne Young is an organizer with the climate action group 350. She says the president-elect's cabinet picks are largely climate change deniers, and that’s concerning.
"Many of Trump's cabinet appointments have publicly expressed these kinds of opinions that disagree with scientific consensus, that disagree with the experts, and we are voicing our rejection of those nominations,” Young said.
Young says the local rally focused on Trump’s selection of former ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State.
“He's the main focus of our action because of Senator Rubio's previous public statements and tweets about his own concerns with Tillerson's ties to Russia,” Young said.
Young is using that common ground with the Senator to try to convince him to reject Tillerson during the Senate confirmation hearings.
