Sinkholes are making headlines again in Florida, and that has many homeowners concerned about how such a disaster could impact their neighborhoods.

This week on Florida Matters we’re talking about sinkholes and what homeowners – like those who suffered damage after last month’s sinkhole in Pasco County -- can do to protect themselves and their property.

In an effort to combat sinkhole insurance fraud, the state passed a law in 2011 that limits what insurance companies are liable for.

In this preview, Kevin Guthrie, Pasco County’s Assistant County Administrator for Public Safety, and insurance expert Dr. Chuck Nyce with Florida State University, discuss how the current rules are impacting homeowners.

I’m the editor for Your Florida, a project focused on connecting people with state government and policies passed in Tallahassee that affect their lives. I’m passionate about highlighting community efforts to improve the quality of life in our state and am committed to holding those in power accountable when they fail to prioritize the needs of people they serve.
