Several days after the blood center reported it was involved in a ransomware attack, OneBlood’s digital system is pumping blood to Florida hospitals once again.

The blood donation organization says it’s remaining operational to collect, test and distribute blood as it works to restore full functionality to its systems "as expeditiously as possible.”

Cyber Florida was created by the Florida State Legislature in 2014 within USF to help Florida become a national leader in cybersecurity education.

The agency confirms a ransomware attack occurred with the Vital Statistics System, which is used to process birth and death certificates ─ and holds patient information.

Earlier in the week, CMS announced it will soon end a program providing advance payments to Medicare providers and suppliers whose cash flow affected by the ransomware attack.

The health system says it is making progress restoring its network. Meantime, the chain's Florida facilities are seeing patients, although delays should be expected due to the transition to paper records.

Ascension, which runs hospitals and clinics in North Florida, is investigating whether patient data was affected. Meantime, electronic health records are down and "nonemergent" procedures are postponed.

It may take several months of analysis before UnitedHealth can identify and notify people who were affected in the February hack of the Change Healthcare subsidiary.

The move brings Florida's law against stalking into the digital age, when inexpensive and widely available technology makes it easier than ever to track someone's movements minute by minute without their knowledge.

If approved by the university's Board of Trustees, the college will launch in the fall of 2025.

Around 800 Florida students will learn about cybersecurity careers during CyberLaunch, which will be hosted by the University of South Florida.
