Florida sheriffs from all 67 counties in the state have announced cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.

State leaders are seeking greater cooperation between local law enforcement and immigration agencies. Immigrant advocates warn that trust between police and the communities they protect will erode.

Some of the concerns include how long surveillance tapes will be kept, and who will have access to them.

Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor said a Jan. 30 shooting in which 11 men were injured appeared to be retaliation for an unpaid drug debt and state charges are expected.

The two men were indicted on federal charges and face a maximum of 15 years in prison.

In the days following the drive-by shooting, some Lakeland officials have pushed for increased surveillance to catch the gunmen and prevent future crimes.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Deputy Blane Lane, 21, was shot while serving a warrant with three other deputies on a suspect who failed to appear on a felony drug charge.
