Business and insurance groups have said Florida is plagued by excessive litigation that drives up costs.

The Senate could also approve a bill that would help shield businesses and insurance companies from lawsuits. The bills would then go to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Florida's original name, image and likeness law bans colleges and universities from steering deals to athletes. State lawmakers will soon lift that ban.

One of the bills ) calls for spending $751 million, including providing property-tax refunds for homes that sustained major damage in Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Nicole.

The bill, and a counterpart allowing businesses to sue local governments, remains a point of concern for groups like the Florida League of Cities, the American Civil Liberties Union, and growth and management organizations.
