The University of South Florida Center for Strategic & Diplomatic Studies and the USF Honors College are hosting a conversation about Brexit – the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union.

Dr. Mohsen Milani will moderate the conversation between British Consul General David Prodger and Henry McLeish, former First Minister of Scotland.

“We are going to be discussing the nature and the challenges of the special relationship that has existed between the United States and the United Kingdom in the post-Brexit era,” Milani said.

Prodger, a former guest of USF, has held the position of British Consul General in Miami since August 2014. He oversaw UK policy towards NATO in preparation for 2014 NATO Summit in Wales.

During his time in office as Minister for Devolution and Home Affairs, McLeish was instrumental in the development of the first Parliament Scotland had seen in 300 years. In 2000, he became First Minister, the leader of Scottish government.

“We’re going to have about 35 to 40 minutes of conversation with the two gentlemen during which time I will ask them about major challenges about this special relationship,” Milani said. “Then we’re going to open it up to the audience, which will include hopefully a good number of our bright students from the honors college.”

The event is free to the public and will be held on Thursday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in room 4200 of the USF Marshall Student Center.
