Food Safety Bill Gives Government Broad Powers

Congress passed the first major overhaul to food safety laws in 70 years Tuesday. The bill would increase the Food and Drug Administration's inspection powers, require food facilities to develop food safety plans and give the agency authority to recall tainted food.
