Patricia Hough, 67, was accused of failing to report income from offshore investment accounts and two medical schools in the Caribbean that she and her husband once owned, the Ledger reports. The IRS testified during the trial that Hough earned more than $12 million from the schools between 2003 and 2007.

Hough’s husband, David Leon Frederick, disappeared after the couple was indicted. Hough, who worked for the Sarasota County Health Department, faced trial alone, the Ledger reports. Her attorney told the paper she will appeal the sentence.
