The Solar Choice Ballot initiative seeks to expand solar options by allowing all Floridians the opportunity to power their homes or businesses with solar power and choose their energy provider. Mike Anteil, executive director of Florida’s Solar Energy Industries Association announced Tuesday that petition signatures have reached six figures. “We’re hitting the cover off the ball so far, a hundred thousand signatures in about a month,” he said.

Tory Perfetti, Chairman of Floridians for Solar Choice says in terms of legislature, the initiative covers all bases.

“You get to have it all with this ballot. It mandates that you do not do anything. It does not increase taxes and it does not subsidize, it simply opens up the market. This allows you to support something that is good for the consumer, it’s good for business and it’s good for the state of Florida.”

Perfetti says the petition needs about 700,000 to 750,000 signatures by February 2016 to pass.
