Tasting rooms at Florida’s craft distilleries could be getting a bit busier soon. Florida law may soon allow distillers to sell more bottles in face to face transactions.
This session saw a long-awaited growler bill finally make it to the governor’s desk, but that wasn’t the only alcohol related legislation working through the process. Troy Roberts of Siesta Key Rum says another bill will allow his Sarasota distillery to expand its face-to-face sales.
“It allows us to sell two of each branded product per person per calendar year,” Roberts says, “So for example if we have our distiller’s reserve spiced rum come out in July, they can buy two bottles of that, and if our beer barrel spiced comes out two months later they can buy two bottles of that one.
Roberts says this will allow him to experiment more, and hopefully develop new products that can go into broader distribution. Existing law limits purchases to two bottles per customer per year.
