Doctor In Menendez Case Seeks Bail Changes

A Florida eye doctor linked to New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez in a corruption case is seeking changes in his bond conditions in an unrelated Medicare fraud prosecution.

Lawyers for Dr. Salomon Melgen say in a recent court filing that he is not a risk of fleeing prosecution because he sold his airplane, plans to sell a 25-foot boat and has adhered to all conditions in his current $18 million bail package.

Melgen wants to move from an apartment to his waterfront Palm Beach County home. He also wants a less cumbersome electronic monitoring bracelet and more freedom to travel within parts of Florida and New Jersey.

Prosecutors oppose the request. A hearing is set for next month.

Melgen has pleaded not guilty to the Medicare fraud and corruption charges.
