Health officials reported three more cases of the Zika virusMonday, as Florida moved closer to 1,200 cases since the outbreak began.

Two of the new cases involved infections that occurred in Miami-Dade County, which has been the focus of concerns about mosquitoes transmitting the virus, according to information posted on the state website.

Another new case in Miami-Dade was classified as "travel related," meaning the person was infected elsewhere and brought Zika into the state. In all, Florida has had 1,191 cases of Zika, which is particularly dangerous to pregnant women because it can cause severe birth defects. The total includes 161 cases involving pregnant women, the Department of Health website said.
