Senate President Joe Negron is washing his hands of outgoing Senator Frank Artiles.

The Hialeah Republican abruptly changed course Friday and submitted his resignation after a confrontation peppered with racist and sexist slurs.

“Well I think he made the right decision," Negron says.  "As he has noted both on the floor and in his letter, all of us are accountable for our actions and comments, so I think it’s an appropriate resolution.”

Artiles apologized for his actions on the Senate floor, but backtracked in public statements afterward.  Later in the week he threatening to reveal similar conduct by fellow lawmakers if the chamber attempted to remove him from office.
