Vice President of Florida’s tourism agency, Alfredo Gonzalez is stepping down. Spokesman Stephen Lawson says Visit Florida’s current President, Ken Lawson will lead the organization forward.
“Under Ken Lawson’s leadership Visit Florida has been committed to more transparency, accountability, and efficiency. We look forward to continuing to line our departments around our new marketing efforts to attract record numbers of visitors to our state,” said Lawson.
Gonzalez’ resignation comes in the wake of a rocky legislative season for Visit Florida. Lawmakers raised concerns about high salaries and a contract involving Florida rapper Pitbull. They initially proposed a plan to cut the agency’s budget by 51 million but rolled back that initiative during a special session. Gonzalez was the highest paid employee at Visit Florida – even out earning the CEO.
