Two state lawmakers are seeking to honor a fallen former colleague, who died last month in a single car wreck near his North Florida home.

Sen. Jack Latvala (R-Clearwater) and Rep. Jayer Williamson (R-Pace) want to re-name part of a highway to honor former state Sen. Greg Evers.

The House and Senate bills filed by both Republicans designate a portion of State Road 4 between Munson Highway and State Road 189 in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties as “Senator Greg Evers Memorial Highway.”

Evers—a Baker Republican—lived in Okaloosa county as a strawberry farmer. The 62-year-old served in both chambers of the Florida legislature for 16 years.
