Tropical Storm Nate has moved back over the warm waters of the Caribbean and is accelerating toward the Gulf of Mexico. Nate is forecast to become a hurricane and make landfall in southeast Louisiana or southern Mississippi Saturday night.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued from Pensacola to Mobile, and a Hurricane Watch is in effect from Mississippi to southeast Louisiana, including New Orleans. Tropical storm conditions could arrive along the Gulf coast in all of the advised areas as early as Saturday afternoon. Officials are urging home and business owners in the hurricane prone areas to finish preparations by midday Saturday.
A Storm Surge Watch has also been issued for all coastlines from Morgan City, Louisiana to Gulf Shores, Alabama. The watch does not include downtown New Orleans at the present time. Residents in the watch area should prepare now for the possibility of life threatening storm surge from Tropical Storm Nate.
