A New Commander For MacDill Air Force Base

USAF
Air Force Col. April Vogel will be the new commander at MacDill Air Force Base.

Tampa's MacDill Air Force Base will welcome a new commander next week. Air Force Col. April D. Vogel will take over July 8, 2016 as leader of the 6th Air Mobility Wing and assume command of the base, which is home to U.S. Central Command as well as U.S. Special Operations Command.

Vogel is currently vice commander of the 175th Wing at Warfield Air National Guard Base, Maryland. She is a command pilot with more than 1,300 flying hours.

She is taking over for Col. Daniel Tulley who also is a command pilot with more than 3,800 flying hours in a variety of aircraft.

"This Wing is part of who I am," said Tulley in the opening of a farewell video he dedicated to the men and women of MacDill and published on YouTube.

"In 75 years, I’m just one more wing commander for MacDill Air Force Base. This base, its history and its relationship with Tampa Bay transcend any one wing commander," Tulley said.

The video also includes photographs of MacDill airmen in action and highlights from Tulley’s two-year command: 1320 Airmen promoted, 959 Airmen deployed and 959 Airmen returned home.

On Tuesday, MacDill staff, friends and family honored Tulley at his "FINI Flight," his final flight at MacDill in a KC-135 Stratotanker.
