The Tampa-based Sykes Enterprises CEO Chuck Sykes announced that a new customer service call center is going to bring 600 new jobs to Lakeland.

The company's call center will be located on Griffin Road at the former FedEx National LTL facility and Sykes said it would start operating in the third quarter.

Sykes' currently has 400 employees at its call center on North Lake Parker Avenue in Lakeland. Chuck Sykes told the Lakeland Ledger the company chose to expand in Lakeland because of its "untapped labor pool for customer service work."

"Lakeland is growing. We're kind of in the path of progress here," said Sykes to the newspaper.

Sykes serves different industries like financial services, technology and communications. It serves transportation, retail, and health care businesses. The company operates about 75 call centers in more than 20 different countries including Hungary, Australia, and Romania with more than 41,000 employees.

Sykes' announcement was heard during the Lakeland Economic Development Council's annual breakfast meeting. To read further on the meeting click here.
