Hotel Statistics Increased for St. Petersburg- Tampa Area

Hotels in St. Petersburg and Tampa did well in June.

Hotel occupancy rates in the Tampa- St. Petersburg area went up 5.8 percent from last year. The average daily rate rose 4.7 percent and the revenue per available room increased 10.8 percent. That's according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

St. Petersburg/ Clearwater Area Convention & Visitors Bureau spokesman David Downing said the increase in the numbers have been a continuing trend.

"Several of the last months have been not only very good months," Downing said, "but the best months ever that we've had in tourism for those months."

Downing mentioned August is usually slow, but the Republican National Convention could change that.

"The room nights alone on our side of the county is a great get for us for August," he said.

"August is traditionally a slower month but the number of room nights generated from the RNC we believe is a thing that might push the entire year into record territory."
