The battle over a new St. Petersburg pier continues.
City council will be voting on Thursday whether to continue the $50 million pier project by approving $5 million to start the construction process.
Councilman Karl Nurse is disappointed with the new plan and says he won't be voting in favor of it.
"Just tell the truth, and the truth is we thought this design would allow us to build a completed pier with amenities for $50 million and the truth is we can't do that," Nurse says.
Those amenities not included in the budget now are two restaurants, concession stand, bait shop and kayak rental that were originally discussed. The current plan leaves these amenities up for bids. City council would ask for restaurant proposals by February.
Not everyone on the council agrees with Nurse. Councilman Steve Kornell told the Tampa Bay Times he feels comfortable moving forward with the project.
